Gaming in Ottawa

If you have just started playing board games, or are simply new to the board gaming scene in Ottawa, then have no fear.  There are a number of groups that meet each week in this city for both casual and more competitive gaming.

For the casual gamer, every Monday night at the Royal Oak on Gloucester Ave. (downtown area) there is a large gathering of gamers who play just about every type of board game under the sun.  If you want to meet people who love board games as much as you, then definitely stop by.  People typically arrive between 6:30pm and 7:00pm and stay until 10:30pm.  There is also a small group of regulars who play the Star Wars LCG.

There are also meet-ups every two weeks in Westboro, Kanata and Orleans.  These groups typically post their information on boardgamegeek.com, in the Ontario forum (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/forum/114/boardgamegeek/ontario) and play a wide assortment of games, similar to the Monday meet-up at the Royal Oak.

Finally, for gamers who enjoy Fantasy Flight Games’ collection of Living Card Games, there is a meeting every Tuesday night at Pints and Quarts, a bar in the Glebe.  Here you’ll find people playing Netrunner, Game of Thrones, Warhammer Conquest and even Call of Cthulhu.  Whether you are looking to learn how to play, enjoy a few games with a beer or prepare for a tournament, this is the place to go.

True North Games also hosts a number of tournaments and game nights at Pints and Quarts on Tuesday evenings.  Be sure to check this site as well as our Facebook page for more information on when the next tournament will be.  We hope to see you there.
